Implant Restoration

Are you missing a tooth and looking for a reliable tooth replacement option? At Helms Family Dentistry, we partner with some of the best oral surgeons around to provide our patients with reliable and long-lasting dental implants.

For many of our patients, dental implants offer the flexibility and freedom that supports their active lifestyles. Huntsville dentist Dr. Alec Helms uses the best materials and is highly skilled in the art of implant restoration.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth used to replace a natural tooth that was lost due to periodontal disease or trauma. Dental implants are made of titanium and are surgically implanted into your bone by an oral surgeon.

Once the implant has been placed, your jaw bone will be given time to harden and grow around the implant. When healing is complete, an artificial tooth (crown) can be placed on top of the implant to provide aesthetic and functional tooth replacement.

Implants are more like your natural tooth than any other tooth replacement option. Dental implants look natural, provide a stable chewing surface for eating, and improve your ability to speak normally.

What Steps Are Necessary for Dental Implants?

The first step to getting a dental implant is to schedule an exam and implant evaluation in our office. Dr. Alec Helms will determine if your dental health is good enough and if you have sufficient bone to support a dental implant. Once he has determined that you are a good candidate, he will refer you to one of our trusted oral surgeons for implant placement.

After your implant is placed, you will be given time to heal. Dr. Helms will stay in touch with your oral surgeon to monitor your healing. When healing is complete, Dr. Helms will take a custom shade of your tooth and work with a highly skilled dental lab to create a crown that will be permanently placed on your implant.

The size, shape, and color of your dental implant will be carefully chosen so that it matches the rest of your teeth. Dr. Helms will provide you with information to care for your dental implant so that it lasts a long time.
